Making Pro Bono Status Quo

Foley & Lardner LLP, a national law firm with approximately 950 attorneys, has launched a 10-week summer internship program seeking to encourage law students to incorporate pro bono service into their legal careers.

The first intern, Dan McGuire, a second-year law student at Georgetown University Law Center this fall, worked with the nonprofit Archdiocesan Legal Network in Washington, DC, as well as in a Foley & Lardner office. The Network, administered by Catholic Community Services, assists indigent clients with information, legal assistance and referrals to volunteer attorneys, law firms and other organizations.

“We think this program will give law students an understanding of the personal and professional development that accompanies working with clients of limited financial resources,” said Richard A. Weiss, managing partner of the firm's Washington, DC office.
