KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
SosloT. M. (Tim) Solso has been Chairman and CEO of 35,000-employee, $11 billion diesel engine maker Cummins since January 2000, number 238 on the Fortune 500 and a stalwart on CRO magazine's 100 Best Corporate Citizens. Tim Solso joined Cummins in 1971 as Assistant to the Vice President of Personnel, and worked his way through the ranks at the global power leader from Personnel and Training to General Manager to EVP Operations to COO to President and ultimately to CEO. Tim holds an MBA in business administration from Harvard University and an BA in psychology from DePauw University.

 

BakerDouglas Baker, Jr. is Chairman, President and CEO of the 23,000-employee, $5 billion Ecolab. Ecolab, number 457 on the Fortune 500, is another company featured on CRO magazine's 100 Best Corporate Citizens. Prior to joining Ecolab in 1989, Mr. Baker was employed by The Procter & Gamble Company in various marketing and management positions. At Ecolab, Mr. Baker held various leadership positions within the Institutional, Kay and European operations. Mr. Baker was named Ecolab's President and Chief Operating Officer in August 2002, was promoted to President and Chief Executive Officer in July 2004, and added the position of Chairman of the Board in May 2006.

 

Since 1985, Jay Whitehead has led business media companies in seven domains: venture capital, law, human resources, finance and accounting, investor relations, computing, and now corporate responsibility. He has been a founder or senior business leader of 26 business publications, including PC Magazine, CRN, UPSIDE, Research, San Francisco Daily Journal, California Republic, HRO Today, HRO Europe, FAO Today and now CRO magazine. He has also founded and run several industry-leading conference businesses, including HRO World and HRO World Europe (acquired by LRP Publications in January 2006). He was a founder of the not-for-profit HRO Association (www.HROAssociation.org). Jay has also worked in broadcast, with TV stints at KTTV in Los Angeles, PBS-TV (NJN), regular guest appearances on CNBC’s On the Money, and a syndicated show on Business America Radio. A dual U.S.-French citizen, Jay holds a B.A. in History from UCLA and a Strategic Finance certificate from the Harvard Business School.

Adam Turteltaub has moderated panels and spoken at over 100 compliance, ethics and governance industry events including the CRO Conferences. He moderates LRN’s KnowledgeForum, a monthly webinar series, symposia for the Ethics and Compliance Officer Association (ECOA), Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE), Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and has served as a faculty member of the Managing Ethics in Organizations course offered by the ECOA and the Center for Business Ethics at Bentley College. Prior to joining LRN, Turteltaub had a 13-year career in advertising and marketing. Before that, he served on the staff of Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan. He also has an extensive writing background and has contributed articles to several magazines.

Michael Levine is a regular columnist in CRO magazine and a member of EBG in the Labor and Employment and Litigation practices and he is the Chair of the firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility Group in the New York office. His practice focuses on corporate compliance with labor, employment, and human rights standards, and on commercial and intellectual property litigation for multinational manufacturing, apparel and consumer goods clients. He has written a chapter on Corporate Social Responsibility in International Corporate Practice, a treatise published by the Practising Law Institute. Prior to joining EBG, Mr. Levine was a Partner, Head of the Human Rights and Corporate Compliance department, and a senior litigator at another New York firm. He has also served as the Deputy Bureau Chief of the Major Narcotics Investigations Bureau of the Kings County District Attorney’s office, and as a Senior Assistant District Attorney in the Organized Crime Bureau, where he investigated and prosecuted significant organized crime, narcotics and white collar criminal offenses in Kings County and the Eastern District of New York. He holds a J.D. from Emory University School of Law, a B.A. from Columbia College, and studied at Oxford University.

John Elkington is Founder & Chief Entrepreneur of U.K.-based SustainAbility, which advises clients on the risks and opportunities associated with corporate responsibility and sustainable development. LubberMindy S. Lubber is the President of Ceres, the leading U.S. coalition of investors and environmental leaders working to improve corporate environmental, social and governance practices. She also directs the Investor Network on Climate Risk (INCR), an alliance that coordinates U.S. investor responses to the financial risks and opportunities posed by climate change. Ms. Lubber has held leadership positions in government as the Regional Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; in the financial services sector as Founder, President and CEO of Green Century Capital Management, an investment firm managing environmentally screened mutual funds; in the private sector as the President of an environmental law and policy consulting group; and in the not-for-profit sector for more than a decade leading environmental and public interest law organizations, including the National Environmental Law Center, which she founded. She was the Senior Advisor and Communications Director to former Governor Michael Dukakis, and for a decade, held leadership positions with the Massachusetts Public Interest Research Group (MASSPIRG), including Chairwoman of the Board of Directors.

JobeTrip Jobe is the Director of Marketing for Neenah Paper Inc., a manufacturer of premium papers. Mr. Jobe was part of the team that directed the company’s 2004 spin-off from Kimberly-Clark Corp. and he has been instrumental in enhancing Neenah’s focus on sustainability. Already known for taking a bold and proactive stance on the environment before the spin-off, Neenah has since committed to aggressively reducing its environmental footprint by switching to sustainable resources such as Green Steam and Green-e certified renewable energy, obtaining third-party certification by the Chlorine Free Products Association as processed chlorine free, and expanding its offering of premium papers certified to the Forest Stewardship Council’s chain-of-custody standards. Prior to joining Neenah, Mr. Jobe held positions at International Paper. He is a member of the paper committees at the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) and the National Paper Trade Association (NPTA). Mr. Jobe holds an MBA from Emory University and a BA in Economics from Davidson College.

Neel Bradham’s primary responsibilities include strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, new venture development and corporate communications. He also has overall management and oversight of Interface’s global sustainable strategy group and the new venture, InterfaceRAISE. In this position, he oversees a team focused on providing technical assistance, measurement and data management, program development, and communications and marketing support to Interface’s global businesses. Prior to joining Interface in 2003, Mr. Bradham held positions in the investment banking and strategy consulting industries, the most recent of which was as a member of Ernst & Young’s Consulting Practice in Atlanta, Georgia, where he focused primarily on developing and delivering traditional business, turn-around, growth and customer strategies, across a variety of industries. Bradham earned a B.A. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1993, as well as an M.B.A. from the University of Georgia in 1999, where he currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Terry College of Business.

 

CEO’S VIEW OF CRO
Under Stanley Litow's leadership, IBM has developed innovative technologies to help children and adults learn to read, provided Internet access for people with disabilities and powered research on Alzheimer’s and AIDS. He initiated IBM’s program to “reinvent education,” which serves more than 80,000 teachers and 8 million children worldwide. Mr. Litow previously served as the deputy chancellor of schools for New York City; founded and ran Interface, a nonprofit “think tank”, and served as an aide to the mayor and governor of New York. He has contributed to such publications as Brookings Papers, The New York Times and Newsday. Honors include awards from the Anne Frank Center, the Martin Luther King Commission and the Women’s City Club.

LEGAL LESSONS LEARNED: THE GENERAL COUNSEL'S ROLE IN CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY

Robert Fatovic leads Ryder’s legal functions and serves as Corporate Secretary for coordinating all functions relating to the company’s board of directors. He is also responsible for Ryder’s Safety, Health and Security organization, Corporate Compliance Group, Government Affairs and Environmental Department and is a member of Ryder’s Executive Leadership Team. Ryder is a Fortune 500 global transportation and supply chain management solutions company with over 29,000 employees worldwide. Mr. Fatovic joined Ryder in 1994 as Assistant Division Counsel. In 1996, he became Associate Division Counsel and was promoted to Chief Counsel the same year. Subsequently, he became Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel. In 2002, Mr. Fatovic was appointed Senior Vice President, U.S. Supply Chain Operations, High-Tech and Consumer Industries. Prior to Ryder, he was Associate Attorney at Hannoch Weisman, PC, in New Jersey. He earned a law degree at Boston College Law School and a B.S. in Finance from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College. Mr. Fatovic serves on the Board of Directors of the U. S. Chamber of Commerce and is a Cabinet Member of United Way of Miami-Dade.

Richard Cellini has over fifteen years of professional and managerial experience in corporate law, business strategy, and high technology. Prior to joining Integrity, Mr. Cellini was CFO & General Counsel of Salary.com Inc., a venture-backed software company serving compensation
management professionals. Richard has served as a vice president of an international brand strategy consultancy (Fitch plc), a principal in a venture capital fund (100x Ventures), and an associate at Milbank Tweed. Richard has an A.B. and a J.D. from Georgetown University, and an LL.M. from the University of Cambridge (U.K.). He is admitted to practice law in New York and the District of Columbia.

Marcia Narine oversees the company’s global compliance, corporate governance, business ethics, privacy, labor and employment legal programs. Prior to this role, she was group director of human resources for Ryder’s Supply Chain Solutions division. Before Ryder, Ms. Narine was an associate with Morgan, Lewis and Bockius’ labor and employment practice. Prior, she was a commercial litigator with Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen and Hamilton, and law clerk to former Justice Marie Garibaldi of the Supreme Court of New Jersey. Ms. Narine earned her law degree, cum laude from Harvard University and her bachelors degree, cum laude, in political science and psychology from Columbia University. She is a member of the Open Compliance and Ethics Group (“OCEG”) employment law working group; a member of the Ethics and Compliance Officer Association; on the editorial board of the Society of Corporate Compliance & Ethics.

Mark Sifferlen joined Cummins as Senior Counsel in 2000 after several years in private practice in Indianapolis. He specializes in labor and employment law, and oversees efforts to ensure global compliance with the company’s Code of Business Conduct. He also is responsible for creation and dissemination of the Cummins Law Department’s online compliance training programs that are administered to employees worldwide. Mr. Sifferlen holds a law degree from the Northwestern University School of Law and his B.A. in English literature from DePauw University.

David GreenbergDavid I. Greenberg is Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer of Altria Group, Inc, where he heads enterprise-wide efforts on compliance and integrity, chairs the Altria Group Compliance Leadership Team, and reports regularly to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors. Mr. Greenberg joined Philip Morris Management Corp. (PMMC) in 1988. Prior to that, he was an attorney with the law firm of Arnold & Porter from 1984 to 1988, and was elected to the partnership prior to his departure. From 1981 to 1984, he was legislative director and general counsel for the Consumer Federation of America, where he was its principal legislative representative, lawyer, and spokesperson. Mr. Greenberg was also a legislative representative for Ralph Nader from 1975 to 1977.

Tom Connors is a partner in Deloitte’s Enterprise Risk Service (“ERS”) practice and is one of the Northeast Leaders of the Sarbanes-Oxley practice. Mr. Connors has played a leadership role in developing and overseeing Corporate Governance Services methodology and approaches including Audit Committee Effectiveness Services and Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance services. He is also the ERS Northeast Regional Leaders of Commercial Industries and Telecommunications, Media and Technology practices. Mr. Connors successfully led numerous engagements to assist large global organizations in improving corporate governance, compliance and internal control requirements. He has over 25 years of experience in internal control compliance and auditing and is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Information Systems Auditor.

Sandra Bograd develops and oversees compliance and corporate governance for New York Life International and local operations in nine international markets. Before New York Life, she worked with AIG, responsible for the company’s compliance programs. Previously she worked as an outside counsel, serving both as a litigator and as an internal investigator. Ms. Bograd began as a prosecutor in the Essex County prosecutor's office in New Jersey. She is a member of the Board of Trustees, Legal Services Foundation, Essex County Bar Association and also the International Security Committee of the New York City Bar Association. She is a founding member of the Hands Across The World Committee of Save The Children International. Ms. Bograd received her B.A. from Rutgers University in 1980 and her J.D. from Vermont Law School in 1983.

John Hovis was SVP/corporate officer at Avnet, a global electronics components and computer products distribution company (NYSE:AVT). Mr. Hovis has worked as an executive consultant while also enjoying an adjunct faculty position with the Arizona State University’s WP Carey School of Business where he taught Legal and Ethical Studies. In addition, he has acted as Chief Operating Officer for GoalCentrix, Inc., a small manufacturer of business performance management software. Prior to GoalCentrix, Mr. Hovis was acting CEO for an international manufacturer of networking products. He also held the position of Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Maryland in College Park. Mr. Hovis earned both his Doctorate and B.A. from the University of Wyoming.

Susan Puflea leads Change, GolinHarris’s specialty practice in corporate citizenship and social responsibility. She joined the firm in 1998 and assumed the leadership of the Change practice in 2006. She has received Public Relations Society of America Anvil awards, PRWeek awards, SABRE awards, Creativity in Public Relations awards, International Public Relations Association Golden World awards, Publicity Club of Chicago Golden Trumpet awards, Bulldog Reporter awards and AMA’s Product Marketing of the Year awards. GolinHarris clients include Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, Dow Chemical Company, McDonald’s Corporation, Nintendo of America Inc., Orange, Texas Instruments and Toyota Motor Sales USA, Inc. The agency, which now celebrates its 50th anniversary, is part of the Interpublic Group of Companies (NYSE: IPG).

Kevin Reilley has over 20 years experience working in and managing legal services, professional services, and high technology businesses. Prior to joining Integrity, Mr. Reilley was President of LegaLink, a leading transcription, captioning, and evidence management business. Prior to LegaLink, he was CEO of Vaultus, Inc. a venture-backed mobile software company serving the enterprise market. Prior to Vaultus, he was Vice President of Sales at Lexis-Nexis, and has also served as a senior executive of two leading professional services firms in the alternative dispute resolution industry. Mr. Reilley holds a B.A. from Hamilton College.

Amit Chatterjee is Senior Vice President of SAP Governance Risk and Compliance business unit. Prior to this, he was Vice President of Strategy at SAP. In the last few years, he has worked closely on SAP’s solution vision across products and technology. Prior to SAP, Mr. Chatterjee was at McKinsey & Co. In his career, he has held management roles in sales, solution development, and marketing. He has attended Stanford University and UC Berkeley.

Thomas Parry has over 23 years training industry experience and was among the architects of Midi’s acquisition by SAI Global in 2007. He began his career in South Africa as Director of Sales distributing training materials for Advanced Systems, Inc. (ASI). In 1984, he led ASI’s sales team in the Midwest US. As ASI became NETg, Mr. Parry was named Director of Consulting for NETg for the West Coast. He joined SmartForce (now Skillsoft) in 1995 as Vice President of Global Sales, taking over a staff of more than 300 sales and support professionals responsible for about $150 million in revenue. In early 2004, Mr. Parry was involved in the acquisition of Midi from company founder Jack Noon. Under his leadership in his previous role as Senior Vice President of Sales and Global Services, Midi experienced unprecedented growth in revenue and customer base.

Warren Stippich is a Partner and Business Advisory Services Practice Leader for Grant Thornton. He is a frequent speaker in the compliance and internal audit segments, including speaking before the Institute of Internal Auditors. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Business.

KEYNOTE #1
Peter Kinder is the President of KLD Research & Analytics and was a Co-founder and Principal (1997-2000) of Domini Social Investments, LLC. KLD is a co-founder of theSustainable Investment Research International Group (SiRi) and Peter has served on its board. Mr. Kinder has served two terms on the board of the U.S. Social Investment Forum, the SRI trade organization, one as Vice Chair. From 1973 to 1988, Mr. Kinder practiced law, first as an Assistant Attorney General in Ohio, then in Boston as a staff lawyerfor a foundation and finally in private practice. He specialized in administrative law and corporate regulation. Mr. Kinder received an A.B. in History from Princeton University in 1970 and was awarded a J.D. from Ohio State University in 1973, both with honors. He was admitted to the bar in Ohio (1973), the District of Columbia (1977), Massachusetts (1978) and the Supreme Court of the United States (1978). KLD’s mission is to remove barriers to socially responsible investing by providing institutional investors with social research,compliance services, benchmarks, performance analytics and consulting. The firm is best known for the Domini 400 Social Index, the first for socially screened U.S equity portfolios, which it created in 1990. KLD is also the engine behind CRO Magazine’s Best Corporate Citizens lists.

KEYNOTE #2
Bill George joined Medtronic, a medical technology company, in 1989 as President and Chief Operating Officer; he was elected Chief Executive Officer in 1991 and Chairman of the Board in 1996. He retired from Medtronic in 2002. Prior to leading Medtronic, he held several executive positions with Honeywell and Litton Industries, including President of Honeywell’s Space & Aviation business. Mr. George serves on the boards of Exxon Mobil Corporation (since 2005), Goldman Sachs, and Novartis AG. Formerly, he was a director of the National Association of Corporate Directors. He is a trustee of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and World Economic Forum USA. Mr. George received his M.B.A. from Harvard University in 1966, where he was a Baker Scholar (highest honors). He holds his B.S. in industrial engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, where he graduated in 1964, where he became a member of the Beta Psi Chapter of the Sigma Chi fraternity. More recently, he received an honorary doctorate of business administration from Bryant University.
